Maintenance Tasks

Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c Release 2 versions 12.2.1.1 and above are considered patch set releases because of the 4th digit. (see about version numbers here). These contain all the new features for 12.2.1, with an integrated, cumulative set of fixes and a small number of targeted, non-disruptive enhancements. These are full new installation and an out-of-place upgrade from 12.2.1 or 11g versions. Once installed, the following is information to get started on with planning further maintenance activities:

  • OPatch is a utility to install one-off fixes and cumulative bundles including security patches and PSUs:

<Note 1587524.1> Using OUI NextGen OPatch 13 for Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c

  • Oracle WebLogic Server is part of the PSU program, learn how these are released and where to obtain:

<Note 1470197.1> Patch Set Update (PSU) Release Listing for Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS) - refer to often

  • There are many products and components installed, patches are built for specific ones, learn how to see what is installed:

    -- Both 12.1.x and 12.2.x included

11g/12c Integration

Refer to the Certification Guides to look up what is certified together. Where something is not specifically certified together, it may be deemed compatible by design. Most of these are including in the Interoperability and Compatibility Guide. (linked above specific to your version). The following provides some more insight between 11g and 12c products:
